Today Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) warned republicans “If we can’t work [health care reform] out to do something within the committee structure, then we’ll be forced to do reconciliation”
In other words, ‘we’re going to get our way regardless.’ But it isn’t just the republicans who are resisting Obamacare, it’s also his fellow Democrats and a large chunk of The People. Ahh, details schmetails.
Reid is also turning up the heat on getting something passed quickly, by threatening to make Congress work through the Columbus Day recess. But as of the 19th, there are 180 amendments proposed for Baucus’s bill, the America’s Healthy Future Act of 2009. That many amendments either means there is significant disagreement on what should be in the bill or the bill was hastily and poorly written. In fact it’s both.
This bill is no different from any of the others (H.R. 3200, H.R. 697, et al) in that it will not address the underlying problem; cost.
